Many of the dances that I celebrate as “The Goddess Dances” have a sexual or sensual component. This is a highly contested and political debate that really is about the nature of power and the role of sexuality in our bodies and in our art and creative expressions.
We need to address sexuality head on. Too often we subdue it, downplay it or in some other way try and sweep it under the rug.
In my experience, a lot of women are secretly fascinated with what seems like a taboo, embodying carnal sexuality and still being intelligent and respectable.
I noticed, even now with my past career as a stripper, women want to pick my brain a little about it. I’m amused by the more conservative looking ones who try and be subtle about asking questions at a party or whatnot.
Seriously, we need to get this stuff in the open.
Isn’t it possible to embrace sexuality and still be taken seriously?
