Lumen Obscura was a weekend of dark delight; gorgeous dancers, Gothic music, beautiful costumes, killer workshops….oh too much fabulousness to mention in one little post.
I performed in Friday night’s dinner show at Michael’s on Main along with a dozen other great acts. (That great pictures was taken by Daev Roehr, by the way). The big gala show Saturday night at the Rio was also truly epic.
The highlights as far as the professional performers go were, Ariellah (who’s pretty much always awesome) and Dusty Paik. I’ll be keeping an eye out if they post videos of their performances so I can share them.
Among the other notable mentions though was an amazing performance by the Butoh dancer duo, ‘Earth Child’. Those guys were stunning! I can’t wait to see them again.
I was also delighted to hear ‘Her Undulating Scales’, the musical project by male belly dancer Paige Lawrence. A cool blend of middle eastern, Dead Can Dancish stuff and industrial sounds. I will seek out more of that for sure.
I also was blessed to have a workshop with Unsinkable Molly who’s performance with her dance partner, Predslava, was another of my favorite performances. I loved their fusion style, heavily influenced by modern dance.
I also took a great workshop with Bex Priest, a very personable Goth from England. She’s way more of a ‘Perky Goth’ than her pictures would indicate, she was a great instructor, really fun, and also has killer taste in music!
(Yeah, she’s an eighties girl like me!)
Bex was in the workshop Saturday with Unsinkable Molly, was teaching her own workshops that same day, she performed both nights, and she still managed to kick our asses in her class!
Seriously…Bex clearly has legs of steel!
What an amazing weekend -I can’t wait till next year!
