There’s lots of videos on YouTube, but the vast majority are performance oriented with poor audio and visual quality. Good instructional stuff is pretty hard to find.
Couple that with the fact that I think it’s particularly tricky to learn pole moves from videos. It’s doable, but it’s tricky.
It’s hard to break down a movement unless they’ve done the video editing to slow things down. You can’t stand there along side the video and do it step-by-step. You kind of have to take a whole bunch of information in, process it in your brain, then get on the pole and just do it!
Burlesque or belly dance is way easier by video.
But there are lots of videos worth watching, particularly for inspiration. Check out the separate “Professional and Inspirational” videos.
If you really want to learn at home, I’d recommend starting with Studio Veena. At some point you really will want to get into a studio for live instruction, but Studio Veena is a solid option. Go to her website and subscribe for more. I’ve collected a couple of videos from her YouTube channel.
When you get to advanced level, do go straight to a pro for one-on-one. If you’ve learned by video and are at a solid intermediate to advanced level, you would benefit from going straight to Pantera.
Check out Pantera’s website and her Skype lessons.
If she can’t kick your ass, I’m not sure who can!
