I went to a fabulous local show in Santa Cruz on Friday night. It was a fundraiser for the Santa Cruz Derby girls, our local kick ass team.
I’ve kind of thought it’d be cool to be a derby girl, but I’m a little too girly for getting all busted and bruised up. But of course I had to go and support the local team, especially when there’s a burly show to help with the fundraiser! This was a great show, a classic burlesque variety night complete with dueling MCs representing each “team”.
The Derby girls are popular in this town but of course I was there to support my burly-girls of the Sin Sisters. I’ve seen Madame Chartreuse and her cohort Miss Balla Fire several times, but they have added some great dancers to their krewe.
One of the highlights for me was Dorian Faust, who was the only dancer I think who did a full on tassel twirling at the end. Loved it! Miss Balla Fire did two excellent routines, one with the gorgeous white fan feathers I’d like to get my hands on!
Madame Chartreuse was an outstanding MC of course, but nobody, but nobody pulls out a bullwhip cracking action in time to the music like she does- fabulous!
Did I mention that she also had on these amazing illuminated chartreuse pasties?!
Also worth noting was an amazing pole dance done by one of the derby girls, while wearing her skates!
Dang! And I thought doin’ pole in stilettos was tough. Seriously, she was buff and really struttin’ her stuff. Awesome!
If your a Bay area California local, check out the Derby girls and my burly-girl friends…
