This article caught my eye about women and their love affair with shoes, particularly stilettos. It’s about a documentary that attempts to understand the whole thing. Here’s the link.
What is it about the shape of a Christian Louboutin shoe, or the Manolo Blahnik that makes a woman’s heart start to race? It’s crazy I know.
For me, it’s more a particular kind of boot, rather than a particular designer. I have this total thing for black boots. Especially patent leather. I swear I’m not a dominatrix- I just so love their shoes!
Yeah I know… it really does sound like a fetish.
I think a woman can’t really call herself a dancer though if she doesn’t have some kind of love affair with her shoes.
Shoes are such an essential element in dance, and most dancers I’ve known have been downright superstitious when it comes to their shoes before a performance.
Even when she buys an identical replacement pair, there’s a very important and stressful breaking in period, where you’re not sure they’re going to be able to replace those trusty old soles.
That breaking in period….Let’s just say it’s highly personal and often very, very specific to each dancer.
Ritualistic really.
Dancers- Be honest! Haven’t you ever bought a new pair of shoes for a performance and at the last minute switched into the beat up old reliable pair?!
I know I have.
