There are 6 photos in all that are layered into this. All the photos are my own. I edited the final image in Picassa and also used a couple different photo filters.
Some of my earlier work is below. The first two are part of my ‘Curvy Girl’ dancer series. I bought the illustrations, but separated them from their backgrounds and layered them onto my own backgrounds with additional purchased elements. I’m still working on creating all my own elements.
My little mermaid was created with a picture of a ‘poser’, a computer generated human figure. I graphed on a picture of a whale tale that I painted and embellished, adding distressing elements to her skin, painted into her hair and, of course, added fun iridescent bubbles! Those are a ‘brush’ in the program I’ve been using.
Lili St Cyr was a famous burlesque dancer, known for her performance with her birds. I used the Wiki Commons Media photo, the purple background is a photograph of my own fabric, the distressing and overlay are commercial use products.
Grungy Dancer is another cute retro girlie I found. I’ve set her on a bed of flowers, all of them are my own pictures. I used the same purple backdrop and the commercial use border and scruffy overlay to distress it a bit.
By the way, an easy way to get started with digital collage is with Serif Craft Artist Platinum. It’s really affordable and it’s the program I’m still using. Next up,though, I’m going to buy Photoshop Elements.
